Here is Arts and Entertainment North Devon‘s Crafty What’s on Guide for creative kids in North Devon this Summer.

SCHOOL’S OUT FOR SUMMER 2011!  So get yourselves organised.  We are lucky to have plenty of fabulous outdoor activities here in North Devon but if the weather is bad or you have youngsters who are just yearning for something creative to do in the holidays then they will certainly be spoilt for choice.

Here are our top tips for a creative summer holiday:

For the drama lovers:
The Plough Arts Centre in Great Torrington will be running several drama workshops for different age groups throughout the Summer holidays.  These include; The Plough Cow – A Play in Two Days for 8-12 year olds, the Plough Play Story which is a drama starter workshop for 3-5 year olds and an exciting stage combat and Shakespeare workshop.  Visit the Plough Arts Centre website for details, dates and prices.

For the dancers:
North Devon Theatres’ Make the Move will be running dance classes at the Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe.  For a bit of street and hip hop there will be two days of breaking, locking, lifting, stunting and routines with a demo for the parents at the end. Beginners welcome!  For the more experienced there will be Jazz & Contemporary dance workshops.  For more information call Carol Turner 01271 869 216.

For the film makers:
Sculpting Light Films will be holding a series of film making workshops at Pilton Community College and Filleigh Village Hall over the summer months.  These fun workshops for differing age groups cover green screen special effects, animation and film making.  Each workshop has a different theme, so if it is Zombies, Fairies or Pirates you are into there’s a film making workshop for you!  More details from Lalla Merlin at Sculpting Light on 01769 551 753.

For the musicians:
Did you love School of Rock?  Well now is your chance to get together with other young musicians, learn new skills, form a band and make music.  Bideford’s Summer Rock School will run throughout August, contact Community Arts Network on 01237 471972 for more details.

For the arts and crafters:
Evolve 150 at West Buckland School are running a Summer Art School.  The sessions are open for youngsters aged between 8 and 14 and cover skills such as clay sculpture, mask and flag making and screen printing.  For more information call Karen Wicks on 01598 760281 or email kaw@westbuckland.devon.sch.uk

Many of the providers listed above subscribe to the Don’t Stop Me Now activity card scheme so even if the pennies are limited this summer you can still take advantage of what’s on offer.

So get out there and get creative – make the most of your summer school holidays in North Devon!
